It angers me that Felons convicted of fraud are allowed to work as Mortgage Brokers in Florida.
The Miami Herald in a stunning investigation, exposes dirty Mortgage Brokers like Brahms Alexis. The Herald reports that Brahms kept his state license for almost three years, even after Florida regulators and federal agents dragged him away from a closing in handcuffs. The Herald continues:
“In September 2005, agents with the Office of Financial Regulation — which oversees mortgage brokers — and the U.S. Secret Service videotaped Alexis brokering a bogus $890,000 loan.”
In June 2006, Brahms pleaded guilty to Identity Fraud but still KEPT his license! This is why we are DEBT WARRIORS! We’ve known that something isn’t right with the Mortgage Industry. The Mortgage Market is a tightly rolled ball of misuse, abuse, fraud and misery.
Another case, reports how Scott Almeida went on a crime spree, that stretched from Tampa to Miami, FL. Scott Almeida was involved in nearly $3 million in fraudulent loans and fleeced 30 people — many of them elderly and disabled.
In Florida, the Office of Financial Regulation was created to hold the Mortgage Industry accountable. But complaints were “routinely ignored”. According to public records, and interviews, customers were told “they’d have to fend for themselves”.
